It depends a lot more on the maintenance skill rather than the spear skill, I'd say that if you have like level 3 or 4, spears take almost twice as long to break, as opposed to level 0. Spears have a 1 in 5 chance to lose durability if I'm not mistaken. Every 2 levels in spear reduces the chance of it breaking. The weapon and the durability of the component matters. Machete makes the best spear, but since they're rare you'll probably have to settle for a Hunting Knife with the best condition. Needless to say, you want a crafted spear in full condition. I dunno at which level of Carpentry you get that, but at Lv4 Carpentry I make 100% condition spears.This is on an athletic 4 character.
