It is quite possible that some of the oil that gets burned and/or captured by the catalytic converter on conventional engines ends up coating the intake manifold in the Prius.Maintenance Light Reset. Started up the car this morning, coldest day in a while here in DC (23F), and the check engine/hybrid system lights came on. Car seemed to drive fine. On the energy consumption screen, the hybrid battery looks appropriately full, and it looked to be charging and discharging at appropriate times.So back at my house I hooked up my OBDII scan tool and it read a P3191 code. I found a Toyota troubleshooting guide online which helped me narrow it down to the MAF sensor. That code could have indicated some other problems, too, such as a bad fuel pump and some other stuff, but the MAF sensor made the most sense. Remove the debris and check to see if the car starts and runs. Another common cause of P3191, P3190 and P0A0F is a failed fuel pump, especially on 2001-2003 models. The pump simple doesn’t put out enough fuel to run the engine. The pump isn’t available separate from the fuel tank, so the entire tank must be replaced. 2001 Prius. First, understand that some Toyota codes won't appear on generic scanners, so we may not know all. P0420 refers to low catalyst efficiency. Could be an O2 sensor problem, or more fundamental. You won't always be so lucky. I see misdiagnosis all the time by technicians, including dealership technicians, who looked at the code and nothing else.
