Uchigatana is not the best katana, so by the middle of the game you can replace it with something better, I recommend a washing pole. Poison is garbage in this game.The Uchigatana is an above average Dex weapon, and is good early and mid game if you're using that stat. The merchant also drops the orange sign soapstone, the residence key, and the dried fingers.
